Aging in Place

St. John’s Aging in Place group, formed in 2011, presents an annual series of lunchtime programs in Bleecker Hall for parishioners and community members. Topics are issues of concern to those growing old in our area and/or those caring for relatives or friends. Clergy and other experts make presentations and lead discussions. Programs are generally scheduled on a Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. (“bring your own sandwich”) and spaced approximately 6 – 8 weeks apart during fall, winter and spring. Check the Church Calendar for events.

Recent sessions have included Conversations Across Generations, Nuts & Bolts of Health-Care Decision-Making, Music – How it can rewire your brain, It Takes a Village, Legal Issues, Getting Last Rites-Right, Balance – Physical and Spiritual, and Family Systems, Generation to Generation. Useful booklets, forms or other information is usually available at the meetings.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Join other parishioners in planning and arranging sessions. Provide refreshments for sessions.

Contact Us:
Those interested in attending sessions, and learning about them in advance, should contact Trudy Calabrese or Lucy Stackler. Aging in Place programs are publicized in At St. John’s and in the weekly bulletin.

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

“If you are seeking after God, together we might find them.”

Seeking after God is one of the principle marks of Christian discipleship. Christians look for God, and find God, in all parts of life, but sometimes it helps to have company. That’s what the church is for. We are the fellowship of those who seek to find Jesus in their lives. We are companions in life and in the spiritual journey.

Join us in seeking God together.
