One Together: Pledging to support St. John's in 2021

We know that this year has been a challenge for everyone. Even though many of us had gotten used to the chaotic nature of our lives, the events of 2020 have upended even what had become normative.

When the full extent of the Coronavirus pandemic became widely known the church tried to meet the moment fearlessly, depending on grace to guide us. The contours of our response are hopefully well known to you by now, but if not, this little document exists to share the story of our church’s journey through this moment.

What we have found is that the mission of this church - to seek and serve God in all persons, loving our neighbor as we love ourselves - has never been more vital. The ways in which we grow into that mission in these odd times has been a challenge. But, we have consistently persevered through all the twists and turns, trying always to improve and perfect what works, and leave behind what doesn't.

This season has clarified for us the core values and priorities of our life together as a church:

  • To offer compelling and beautiful worship
  • To support our members throughout their lives
  • To become a more connected and supportive community
  • To reach out to neighbors in need
  • To care for the environmental gifts given to us
We continue to pursue these priorities even when the building is closed. What follows is the story of how we have done just that.

In this time, we persevere together. Thank you for your support and prayer as we move forward in faith.

Gideon

“Proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching.” - 2 Timothy 4:2

Our annual pledge appeal helps to support everything we do together, our collective mission and ministry: the programs, services, and activities that are integral to the quality of life we all value and cherish.

Over the past year St. John's has improved the lives of others and performed miraculous work together with God. Quam Dilecta! Thank you all for your continued dedication and support.

DOES THE CHURCH RECEIVE CORPORATE MATCHING GIFTS?

Yes, the Church receives some Matching Gifts and this is an area we would like to grow. Corporate Matching Gifts are an excellent way to provide further support for the mission of St. John's Church, as many companies will match charitable contributions made by their employees. Please check with your Human Resources Department for guidance as to how the process works.

TO WHOM MAY I SPEAK WITH ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS?

Questions can be addressed to Stewardship Chair Nina Muller, Treasurer Billy Wresch or either of our two wardens, Seamus Mitchell or Jeremy Bradford.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.
