Sacred Ground - Waiting list!

Mondays, 7:30 - 9:00 pm
February 22 through May 17

February 9, 2021 UPDATE:

Thank you to all of you who expressed an interest in participating in Sacred Ground with the larger Diocesan effort. Including our parishioners, the sign-up is up to 75 people.

At this point, I have asked the Diocese to implement a waiting list for new sign-ups so that I can catch up with recruiting facilitators. Please feel free to add your name to the waiting list here.

For more information on Sacred Ground, enjoy this video featuring our Presiding Bishop:

Many of us were shocked and horrified by the instances over the past many years of racial violence and racial unrest across the country. These events have highlighted and exposed the long unfinished work of racial justice and civil rights in our nation.

This Lent St. John's is invited to journey together, along with parishioners from across the diocese, through the Episcopal Church's Sacred Ground Curriculum.

Sacred Ground is a film- and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity.

The 10-part series is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.

Sacred Ground is part of Becoming Beloved Community, The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing, reconciliation, and justice in our personal lives, our ministries, and our society. This series is open to all and specially designed to help white people talk with other white people. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love.

This lent we will join members of other churches across the diocese in the Sacred Ground journey. Sessions will be led by the Rector as well as brother and sister clergy from across the diocese. Sign ups will be through the Mercer School of Theology's website as they will administer the administrative details of our shared journey. Click this link to sign-up.

Sacred Ground will run on Mondays from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm over zoom beginning on Monday, February 22, 2021 (Monday in the First Week of Lent) and continuing until May 17, 2021 excluding the Monday of Holy Week (March 29, 2021) and Easter Monday (April 5, 2021).

Pease consider making this journey with us.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.
