Outreach Forum this Sunday

One together: One in service.
Sunday, October 18 at 11 am
Zoom

As we all discern how we follow the example of Jesus in our lives, acts of mercy are the most common and visible way in which many of us show our discipleship. Acts of mercy to those outside of our congregation, particularly those across different economic and social strata, are commonly called Outreach.

This habit of life has been modeled for us since the earliest days of the Christian movement and by Jesus himself, as he fed the hungry, healed the sick, proclaimed good news to captives, and cared for the dead and dying. At St. John’s, this ministry of mercy to those outside the congregation is coordinated by our Outreach Steering Committee led by Laura Swiggett.

In this COVID era, many of our neighbors have been dramatically affected by the economic downturn that followed the global response to the virus. Our Outreach Steering Committee has responded powerfully in our name all across the region.

This Sunday, following the 10 am service, St. John’s will have the opportunity to learn together how the Outreach Steering Committee has marshaled resources to the front lines of those in our region fighting the economic crisis, especially through food distribution.

Join Laura and Gideon as they share the story of the Outreach Steering Committee’s efforts over these last many months on Zoom.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.
