Music News and Notes March 23

IN THE IMAGE: LENTEN MUSICAL RECAP

I would like to use this week's Music Notes to offer a huge public thank you to everyone who was involved in this year's Lenten musical.

I couldn't be more proud of the Junior Choir for their hard work, determination, beautiful singing, and energy in preparing and presenting this year's musical, In the Image. I know that it it was "more involved" than previous musicals - and our kids really rose to the occasion.

Thank you to the parents for your help week-in and week-out with snacks, a 2nd adult in rehearsals, in running lines with your kids at home, your help with craft projects for the maker's parade, and your creativity around each of your children's costumes. I certainly couldn't do it all alone, and your help and support is invaluable.

Thank you to our organist, Carol Weitner and our guest musicians, flutist Meredith Daly and percussionists William Romeo and Abbie Yaeger, who really brought the musical to life. A very special thank you to Vikki Reres for your help with the set, props, and all of the special creative touches that add so much to the "production."

And of course a huge thank you to Gideon, Mary Beth, and the congregation for your enthusiastic support of the music program here at St. John's. Musical offerings such as In the Image take a lot of work and sacrifice, but I find that at the end of the day they are rewarding for everyone when they come from a place of love.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

“If you are seeking after God, together we might find them.”

Seeking after God is one of the principle marks of Christian discipleship. Christians look for God, and find God, in all parts of life, but sometimes it helps to have company. That’s what the church is for. We are the fellowship of those who seek to find Jesus in their lives. We are companions in life and in the spiritual journey.

Join us in seeking God together.
