Holy Smokes BBQ

Sunday, Sep 16, 11 am
St. John's Church

All parishioners and guests are invited to attend our ‘Holy Smokes’ BBQ, following the 10:00 a.m. service.

We're asking all members with last names A-G to bring a finger dessert and H-Z a side dish, salad or appetizer to serve 8-10 guests. All food items should be delivered "ready to be served" prior to the start of the 10am service. Extra hands to help with set-up and clean-up are needed and deeply appreciated. Students - this is a great way to add on to your community service hours. Look for signup sheets at Lemonade on the Lawn/Coffee Hour. Please contact Seamus Mitchell (516-319-2727 or [email protected]) with any questions or to volunteer.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be provided. Please wear your casual picnic attire to church and join in the fun. Hope to see everyone there.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
