A Choir for Everyone

Autumn at St. John’s is a special time of new beginnings. Kids are back in school, the program year is kicking off, and soon hot summer nights will be replaced with a cool crispness in the air.

This autumn is also a season for new beginnings and a fresh start for our church music program. Our Choir Camp/VBS gave us all a preview of a renewed energy for our children’s choirs. Next week we welcome back our Chancel Choir and begin regular rehearsals for our Primary and Junior choirs. In October we will “ring in” autumn with our Handbell Choir.

Consider this open invitation, regardless of age, skill level, or musical ability to join a choir and experience the joy of singing and building of community that is unique to choral music. There is a choir for everyone!

Primary Choir (4 - 5 PM, Wednesdays) Our Pre-K to 2nd grade singers will learn the joy of singing and being a part of a musical team. They will offer special music during worship on a monthly schedule. Snack provided! Begins September 7th.

Junior Choir (5 - 6 PM, Wednesdays) Our 3rd-6th grade choir will continue to grow their love of singing, while learning basic musicianship and singing skills in a fun and enriching environment. Junior Choir members will also have the opportunity to further basic musical training with the Voice for Life curriculum. The choir will present musical offerings monthly during worship. Snack provided! Begins September 7th.

Chancel Choir (7:30 - 9 PM, Thursdays) Open to singers of all abilities and all ages, teen to adult. This is the main choir for our 10 AM worship service, leading our congregation in worship weekly through song. This ensemble sings a wide variety of sacred choral literature. All are welcome to join this terrific and dedicated community. Begins September 8th.

Handbell Choir (Time TBD, Thursdays) Open to ringers of all ages and skill levels. Together we will hone basic music reading skills through handbells. The handbell choir offers special music several times a year during special occasions. Whether you are a new ringer or seasoned vet, there is a place for you. Begins October, date TBD.
