Growing Compassion through Acts of Mercy: A Lenten Series
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Wednesdays in Lent
The works of mercy are precisely the concrete sign of our confession that the Son of God has come in the flesh: visiting the sick, feeding those who do not have food, taking care of the outcast. We must perform works of mercy, therefore, because each of our brothers and sisters, whom we must love, is the flesh of Christ: God has come in the flesh to identify himself with us, and in those who suffer it is Christ who suffers".
- Pope Francis, Morning Homilies, January 7, 2016
The Outreach Steering Committee and the Rector are working together to help the congregation link our spiritual practices with our ethical practices of compassion. This Lent, this will be the focus of our lenten learning series: Growing Compassion through Acts of Mercy.
We are pleased to share that several of our Outreach partners and a beloved former parishioner have agreed to join us for this series to share with us how their works of mercy have deepened their compassion and their knowledge of God.
Each week will feature a guest speaker, assigned readings, and small group discussions, and will include: Sooky Lassen, former Hunger and Outtreach chair and founder of Save the Children, Long Island, Dr. Isma Choudhury, former President of the Islamic Center of Westbury and founder of the Upholding HUmniuty Project, Jon Stepanian, founder of Community Solidarity, Pilar Moya, director of the Housing Helps non-profit in Greenlawn.
