THANK YOU, TEAM ST. JOHN’S!
The Outreach Food Drive was a huge success! Forty-one families and several Outreach committee members braved the rain on Sunday afternoon, donning foul weather gear, masks and gloves, to donate over 140 pre-assembled grocery care packages for families in our area struggling to make ends meet during this COVID-19 crisis. The care packages will be distributed later this week with the assistance of the Red Cross. They contain essential pantry staples (rice, beans, flour, evaporated milk and canned tuna or chicken) and will be shared with our neighbors in Huntington Station and Wyandanch. Many parishioners also offered financial support to help underwrite the purchase of extra food, as well as our on-going relief work during this time.
We put this food drive together fairly quickly in response to an urgent need, and carefully planned and executed it to be in compliance with current safety guidelines. The St. John’s community’s response was truly remarkable. Way to go, team!! Our neighbors are grateful beyond words for this help.
With much appreciation,
The Ad-Hoc Outreach Food Drive Committee: Laura Swiggett, Gideon Pollach, Mary Beth Mills-Curran, Adam Waywell, Seamus Mitchell, Kirsten Heinemann, Mary Gay Townsend, Ellen and John Hatch, Dan Barbiero, Nancy Cashin
