Supporting our Neighbors in Need this Christmas

This holiday season will be very different for most of us. However, thousands of children and their families will not be celebrating at all. They are struggling financially and facing extreme poverty due to the many challenges associated with Covid-19. The holiday festivities that most of these children look forward to will be drastically impacted by their family's lack of resources.

This year St. John’s is supporting our community through 2 projects – we hope that you will participate in any way you can.

St. John’s “Adopts” 3 YFCA Families for Christmas
Sundays Dec 13 and 20, 8:30 - 10 am
Drop-off at St. John's parking lot

St. John’s Outreach is partnering with Youth and Family Counseling of Oyster Bay/East Norwich to make the holidays a bit brighter during this difficult year. We are “adopting” 3 families who are struggling financially due to the pandemic. Parishioners are invited to donate gifts from each family’s “wish list”: click Family Wish List.

If you would like to participate, please contact Nancy Cashin ([email protected]) or Mary Gay Townsend ([email protected]). Nancy and Mary Gay have offered to coordinate the donations to help us fulfill each family’s needs and avoid duplication of effort.

Kindly wrap your gifts and place them in a shopping bag labelled with each family’s number (as noted on the Wish List). You can drop them off in the St. John’s parking lot between 8:30 - 10 am on either December 13 or 20. We will have volunteers there ready to receive your gifts. You can also arrange for a special drop-off when you contact Nancy or Mary Gay.

St. John’s PROJECT TOY DRIVE 2020 - The need is greater than ever!
Your support is needed to help provide for the thousands of Long Island families facing financial hardship and crisis. Spread joy by donating gift cards or new toys to the Family Service League Project Toy drive.

This season The Family Service League is offering easy ways to participate:

  • Drop-off new unwrapped toys for children ages birth - 16 and new wrapping paper in the decorated toy box in the Parish House vestibule. Please DO NOT leave money, checks or gift card contributions in this box. Drop off through Monday December 14.
  • To make a monetary donation of any amount: TEXT FSL to 41444 and click on Project TOY; or donate on-line at www.fsl-li.org; or mail donation to: FSL – Development Dept., 790 Park Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743.
  • You can use the link to the Family Service League Amazon Wish List to make contributing toys and gift cards, too.

Thank you for your generosity during this especially challenging Christmas season!

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.
