Refreshment Sunday 2022

Sunday, March 27, at the 10 am service

St. John's will continue its long tradition of Refreshment Sunday with a short musical performed during the 10 am service this Sunday.

This year's presentation will be The Tale of the Three Trees by Alan Pote and Tom S. Long. The transformative power of God's love permeates this deeply moving story, based on an American folk legend, of three trees that long-ago stood and dreamed of what they wanted to become when they grew up. Each of their dreams comes true in the most unexpected of ways. It is a story of hope and a lesson in expectation.

The Primary and Junior Choir have been rehearsing intensely to prepare this special event. Performed on this Fourth Sunday in Lent, otherwise known as Refreshment or Soup Sunday, this story with its five musical numbers is especially meaningful for the Lenten season.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.
