Pentecost is May 28
Pentecost is May 28, 2023 and at St. John's we mark this occasion in a few unique ways:
We decorate the church with special streamers and a large dove to remind us of the dramatic coming down of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost to the disciples.
In the service, we will read the traditional reading from the Book of Acts, which tells the story of the disciple's miraculous ability to preach the gospel in languages that were intelligible but previously unknown to the disciples. We remember this in the church by inviting parishioners who speak a language in addition to English to share in teh declaration of that remarkable story as it is read in English. To sign up to participate in our mass reading, please contact Gideon Pollach.
Additionally, it is our custom, when weather permits, to release three doves from the pond edge to symbolize the liberating and inspiring power of God that was given to the church on the day of Pentecost 2000 years ago.
Finally, on this day, we invite all our parishioners to wear red to church as a fun way to participate in this dramatic day!
We look forward to celebrating Pentecost with you!
