Caring for Creation: Guest preacher January 30!
On Sunday, January 30, 2022, St. John's is pleased to welcome The Rev. Dr. Matthew Moore as our guest preacher. Matthew has been recently appointed Missioner for Environmental Justice by our Bishop. Dr. Moore is also co-chair, with Mary Beth, of the Diocese of Long Island's Creation Care Community established to help the diocese and its congregations make thoughtful decisions about how we can creatively and consistently care for the creation that God has placed in our trust.
Moore served as Assisting Priest at St. John’s, Park Slope, beginning with his ordination in 2017 and ending with his acceptance of this new position.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Moore holds an A.B. in English (UC Berkeley), and a Ph.D. in Philosophy (University of Illinois, Chicago). His formation for ordained ministry took place at the Mercer School of Theology. In between college and graduate school, he worked as a database programmer and technical manager.
Moore is a Professor of Philosophy at Brooklyn College, where he has also served as chairperson of the philosophy department, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Associate Provost. He and his husband Tom (another transplanted Angeleno) reside in Flatbush, and recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.
Join us to welcome Dr. Moore!
