Stone Soup Prep 2019
Stone Soup Luncheon Preparation 2019
Dear Children and Parents,
On March 31, St. John’s Sunday School and the Outreach Committee will sponsor the celebration of our annual Stone Soup Sunday with a veggie soup lunch after the service.
In preparation for the meal our young families are asked to bring an ingredient for the soup to the church by March 24. The older students will help prepare the recipe bags with volunteers from the Outreach Committee.
- PreK - one 5 lb. bag of carrots
- K - one 5 lb. bag of potatoes
- 1st & 2nd - one cauliflower
- 3rd - two 15 oz. cans whole kernel corn
- 4th - one 3 lb. bag of onions
- 5th & 6th - four zucchini
- 7th & 8th - two 16 oz. cans of crushed tomatoes
After the 10 am service on March 24, the congregation will be invited to take home a bag filled with ingredients, quart containers, and a simple recipe to make 3 quarts of vegetable soup. The prepared soup is brought to church the following Sunday, March 31 before the 10 am service where it will be heated and served by students and volunteers.
This annual project gives the members of our congregation, from youngest to oldest, a chance to watch how a communal feast grows out of small contributions and to experience that every gift matters.
We hope that you join the congregation after services on March 31 for this special meal. A free will offering is all that we ask. We will also be selling extra quarts of soup to take home. All proceeds go to our outreach efforts.
Thank you for your help. This event would not be possible without your support.
