Backpack Blessing & Sunday School | St. John's Episcopal Church

We are excited for the return of children's programs on Sunday morning!

We will be providing Nursery Care for infants and toddlers in the Cold Spring Harbor Nursery School space.

Godly Play (for kids in Pre-K through Grade 3) begins this week. They will meet at 10am in the Sherwood Room.

Elements of Faith (kids in Grade 4-6) will be joining the grown ups in big church for now. We will have a special meeting for parents in this age group on September 19 after church.

All Ages will gather for the Blessing of the Backpacks at the end of the service. Decorate and laminate your own backpack blessing tag at the Holy Smokes Barbecue.

*masks are required for all children over the age of 2.

News

St. John's Episcopal Church was the first religious institution to be established in Cold Spring Harbor. The first Episcopalian services were held in the little 18th century school house just above the site of the present church. The very first Vestry minutes, written in fine script on September 4, 1831, lists the founders who pledged $2,000 to build a new church.

Like our lives, our church community is a gift from God we neither earn nor deserve, and yet, it is ours. We are responsible for caring for it, for nourishing it, and for participating in the ever outpouring gift of God's grace which we share through our actions together. We are stewards of these gifts for as long as we live, and we steward the gift of this church so that future generations will have the opportunity to receive God’s grace and put it into action.

Our whole life and ministry is “Grace in Action.”
